The evening Coffee and Conversation book group is reading the best-selling memoir "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail" by Cheryl Strayed. Reeling from the death of her mother and a painful divorce, Strayed set out on a dangerous 1,100-mile solo hike that tested her physical limits and ultimately helped her to heal. The book club discusses "Wild" at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15.
The morning Coffee and Conversation book group is reading Denis Johnson's novella "Train Dreams." The book tells the story of early 20th century day laborer Robert Grainer, who endures the loss of his family and struggles for survival in the Idaho frontier. The group meets at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25.
The Coffee and Classics book group is reading a book perfect for late October: the Victorian mystery "The Woman in White" by Wilkie Collins. One of the most popular novels of the 19th century, the book features all of the elements of a page-turner: mistaken identities, surprise revelations, amnesia, locked rooms and an unorthodox villain. The book group meets at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.
Our book clubs are open to anyone with a love of reading and good discussion. Plan on reading the featured book before attending a meeting.
