Coffee and Crime mystery book club

Seymour Library's mystery book club looks at a different theme each month. Anyone with an interest in mysteries is invited to join. Participants are asked to read at one of five suggested titles that represent the theme.

7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8; also noon Tuesday, Sept. 9: Police procedurals: books that feature a detective who is a member of a police department and must work within the rules and procedures of the department.  Read one of these books: Cop Hater by Ed McBain, A Judgment in Stone by Ruth Rendell, The Old Wine Shades by Martha Grimes, A Certain Justice by P.D. James and 7th Inning Stretch by Elizabeth Gunn.

7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6; also noon Tuesday, Oct. 7: Psychological suspense: mysteries that focus on the intricacies of the crime and what motivated the perpetrator to commit them. Darkly atmospheric stories, disturbing mind games, engrossing and compelling characters - these are stories that generate a sense of unease. Authors to look for include Ruth Rendell, Carol O'Connell and Mary Higgins Clark. Read one of these books before the meeting: Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane, Absent Friends by S.J. Rozan, The Alienist by Caleb Carr, Boy in the Water by Stephen Dobyns.
