New services, policies go into effect May 1
The following policy changes have been approved and are likely to affect
your use of library materials:
Renewals by phone: Patrons may now renew
their books by phone by calling 252-2571.
Book borrowing when fines are due: Patrons who owe $5 or less in
fines may continue to check out library materials. Once the overdue fee
reaches $5.01 or more, the fine will need to be paid in order to check
out library materials. Previously, library materials could not be
checked out when any fines were due.
Borrowing new books: New books may be borrowed for 14 days
instead of 10 days. New books may be renewed if they are not on hold for
someone else.
No charge for holds: The 40-cent charge for each hold has been
eliminated, since many of the notices are sent by e-mail. Patrons with
e-mail should make sure the library has their e-mail address.
No limits on numbers of non-fiction books borrowed: Patrons may
now check out an unlimited number of books per call number, except
juvenile holiday books.
Increased number of DVDs and videos borrowed: Patrons may check
out up to five DVDs, videos or any combination thereof.
Children borrowing materials from the adult collection: Children
of any age may borrow materials throughout the library except for DVDs
in the adult collection. Previously, children with a juvenile card could
only check out materials cataloged as juvenile or teen. This policy
change allows children to check out a much larger range of materials.
Parents are responsible for deciding what materials are appropriate for
their children.
The current policy regarding DVDs from the adult
collection is unchanged: Children who have reached 8th grade
or age 14 may check out any DVD.
Additional fee for lost materials: Patrons who lose an item must
pay a $5 processing fee in addition to payment for the lost item and,
when necessary, the reinstatement fee.
