Summer officially begins on Saturday, June 21, and that’s also the first day of our biggest, best, summer reading program ever! Our Children’s Room is offering stories, crafts and performances
through the middle of August, and we’ve added hundreds of new books to our collection just in time for summer reading. The Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre will help us kick off this year’s event, with stories on the lawn at 11 a.m. Come a little early, enjoy games on the lawn, and pick up a summer reading log. Everyone will definitely want a reading log this year – children who bring it back to show us at the end of summer get to pick out a new book of their own to keep. They’ll also be entered in a drawing for a new bike. This year’s theme – “Fizz, Boom, Read!” – features science, so we’ll have lots of stories and projects about sound, motion, weather and animals. Other activities this month:
- Tuesday, June 24: Theater on the Lawn, 11 a.m. Theme: Sound.
- Wednesday, June 25: Children’s craft. Drop in between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to make a musical instrument.
- Saturday, June 28: Theater on the Lawn, 11 a.m. Theme: Bugs.
For a look at all of our summer events, pick up a “Fizz, Boom, Read!” brochure at the library, or check our online calendar. Major funding for the summer reading program comes from the Bernard Carl and Shirley Rosen Library Fund. Funding for Theater on the Lawn comes from a Finger Lakes Community Arts Grant. The grand prize bicycles are donated by Five Star Bank.
